Production Go-Live

After sandbox testing completes successfully, you can set up production access. Production mode sends real invoices to FBR through PRAL. Follow these steps carefully to avoid disruptions.

Before you start

Before you can switch to production, confirm the following prerequisites are in place:

  • Sandbox testing must be complete — all relevant invoice scenarios have passed validation in the sandbox environment.
  • Production token retrieved from the IRIS portal (see Step 1).
  • Sandbox token already saved in TaxConnect — the sandbox and production token fields are separate and both may be active.
  • Your organization must be Active (not sandbox-only) in TaxConnect. Only active organizations can submit to production.
  • An active subscription license is required for production submissions. Sandbox submissions are free, but live invoices consume invoice credits.

Important: You can configure your production token and enable production mode at any time, even during your trial. However, live invoice submission only works after you add a valid production license to your account.

Step 1 — Get your production token from IRIS

Your production API token is generated inside the FBR IRIS portal. Every taxpayer has a unique token tied to their NTN.

  1. Log in to the IRIS portal using your taxpayer credentials.
  2. Navigate to Digital InvoicingAPI IntegrationProduction Environment.
  3. Click Open Web API Details to view your production security credentials.
  4. Copy the Production Token (also referred to as the security token or API token). Store it somewhere secure — you will paste it into TaxConnect in the next step.

If you cannot find the Production Environment section, your IRIS profile may not have production API access enabled. Contact the FBR helpline or your tax practitioner to request production API integration.

Step 2 — Enter production token in TaxConnect

Once you have the token from IRIS, return to TaxConnect and save it to your organization configuration.

  1. Open Invoices from the main navigation, select your organization, and click the settings cog (gear icon).
  2. Go to the Integrations tab.
  3. Paste the production token into the Production Token field.
  4. Click Verify beside the production token field. TaxConnect sends a test request to the FBR production endpoint to confirm the token is valid.

If verification fails, double-check that you copied the full token from IRIS. Tokens are case-sensitive and must include all characters. A failed verification means the token is either incomplete, expired, or not yet activated for your NTN.

Step 3 — Enable production mode

Once the token verifies successfully, a production mode toggle appears in the Integrations tab.

  1. Read the responsibility notice that appears. It explains that invoices submitted in production mode are real and sent to FBR through PRAL for acceptance or rejection.
  2. If you understand and accept the terms, confirm the notice.
  3. Toggle the switch to Production mode.

Production mode takes effect immediately. Any invoice submitted from this point forward is sent to the live FBR production API rather than the sandbox. You can switch back to sandbox mode at any time by toggling the switch off.

Heads up: Production mode sends live invoices to FBR. Double-check your tenant settings, tax mappings, and invoice data before enabling production mode. Production submissions consume invoice credits from your subscription — each submitted invoice counts toward your monthly or prepaid credit balance.

Production mode indicators

Once production mode is active, several visual cues throughout the application confirm the environment:

  • The dashboard displays a status badge such as Production active or a similar indicator so you always know which environment is live.
  • Invoice history distinguishes sandbox from production records. Each record is labelled with its submission environment, making it easy to review test versus live invoices.
  • The queue and submission records also show the environment. This is especially helpful when you switch back to sandbox for additional testing while production remains configured.

These indicators help prevent accidental submissions to the wrong environment. Take a moment to familiarise yourself with the visual cues on your dashboard.

Pre-launch checklist

Before you submit your first live invoice, run through this checklist to confirm everything is ready:

  • Tenant settings complete — NTN, province, business addresses, and company details are filled in and accurate.
  • Tax mappings configured and tested — Every tax rate used in your invoices is mapped to the correct FBR scenario, and the mappings were validated during sandbox testing.
  • Sandbox testing passed — You have submitted at least one invoice of each type (standard sale, exempt, reduced rate, etc.) to the sandbox and confirmed the responses.
  • Production token entered and verified — The token from IRIS is saved in the Integrations tab and passes the verification check.
  • Active subscription with available credits — Your license includes production invoice credits, or you have topped up with a credit pack.
  • Organization is active — The organization is set to Active (not sandbox-only) in the Organizations page.

Once every item is checked, you are ready to submit your first live invoice. Start with one or two invoices, confirm they are accepted by PRAL, and then proceed with bulk submissions.
